Jason Silva

Futurist & Host of Brain Games

Jason is an Emmy-nominated television host, storyteller, filmmaker, and futurist. He is known for presenting the global hit Brain Games on the National Geographic Channel, a show enjoyed by viewers in over 171 countries, and the eight-part series, Origins: The Journey of Humankind.

Born in Venezuela, Silva started his career as a presenter on Current TV, the Emmy-winning, independent cable network then owned by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore. There he wrote, produced, and hosted more than 100 hours of original content, before leaving to become – according to the Atlantic – “a Timothy Leary of the viral video age…a part-time filmmaker and full-time walking, talking TED Talk.”

Online, Silva’s inspirational YouTube channel, Shots of Awe, has explored topics including disruptive innovation, technology, creativity, the science of awe, metaphysics, existentialism, and the human condition. Over 30 million viewers have watched and shared his videos, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Branson, and NASA.

The Imaginary Foundation, a think tank, recently described Silva as “like some kind of Ontological DJ… he recompiles the source code of western philosophy by mixing and mashing it up into a form of recombinant creativity, which elevates understanding from the dry and prosaic, to a sensual cognitive romance.” In short, he delivers philosophy, science, and art for the YouTube generation.

Silva prefers to describe himself as a “wonder-junkie.”
